Learn Piano > Digital Pianos
Digital pianos and electric keyboards are a great alternative to the real mccoy.Firstly, digital pianos are much more cost-effective, consume less space and can be volume controlled better than a traditional piano which is a plus if you have thin walls.
The fact that digital pianos are digital means you can work closely with your computer and digitally import compositions, sounds and samples and impliment some really cool sound effects. If you were composing music for a movie scene you can record your piece in real-time on your digital piano to your computer and edit it later. Whereas a traditional piano would be put at a serious disadvantage with a non-digital recording.
One has to decide on their needs beforehand as digital pianos may not be suitable for everyone. Non digital pianos do have a much better sound quality, and if looks are important, can furnish your home nicely. Although upper-end digital pianos have weighted keys to simulate a non-digital piano the feel is still not the same.
The tonal quality of a digital piano cannot compensate for a real piano. So both digital and tradition pianos have their own qualities but in the end it comes down to the user. Go to a music store that sells digital pianos and classic pianos and compare them side by side for better judgement.
If you have the money, get a digital piano and a traditional piano so you can get the best of both worlds and take advantage of this digital age.
