Piano refinishing is a step-by-step process but once done correctly can bring life back into your aging instrument and add serious value to your piano.
The steps of piano refinishing involves staining, filling, sealer, top coats and rubbing out the finish.
The actual process of piano refinishing begins by removing the old finish and washing the case to get rid of any chemical residue. The piano is evaluated for any damages to the case and veneer and if necessary repairs are made by our master woodworker.
The piano case and parts are sanded down and prepared for staining or priming.
The piano is sent to a piano refinishing department where a painstaking process of spraying and sanding in between coats takes place.
The wood finishes receive a second stain also known as the toner to even out the color and are then sealed again. If necessary, a third and final stain is applied. The final finish requires multiple coats of finish followed by machine polish or hand rubbing.
Typically, it takes about 12 to 14 weeks to complete the piano refinishing process. For a lacquer finish, an additional 2 to 3 weeks of drying time is also required.
